Fell in love with an white MGA 'bubbletop' in neighbor's garage/yard while playing wiffle ball many many years ago. After college but before starting our careers, neighbor and I bought a green 1963 MGB with no transmission for $100. Towed it with a rope using my father's car.
Went to a junk yard to find a transmission and we're duped into buying a midget transmission where the starter wouldn't fit. Eventually sold the car to the original owner for next to nothing since we were over our heads. Neighbor bought a MG 1100 and we took the motor out on the street after renting a block and tackle. First time we saw a motor with a transaxle! Nice car for getting around and easy to work on.
My next MG was a 1970 red MGB. Paid $1750 in 1974 with my student loan money since back then they made the check out to the student! Had this during junior and senior year of college in northeast CT. Great car and kept it until I moved to NYC for the beginning of my career. Couldn't afford the car in NYC never mind the potholes which would have destroyed it.
Now retired and looking to buy a 1973 MGBGT...would enjoy working on it since I did work on my 1970. Still have MGB manuals from then with log books of repairs.
Hope to buy it in January from a private dealer. Covid has limited my movements to see cars but if the right car will buy and transport.
