Didn’t get that much done today but trying to make some progress every day because there is so much to do. Had to run out and get a 1 1/8” impact socket for the front hub nuts. Got the driver side caliper, backplate and hub off. Spent way too much time cleaning the backplate up so that I could get a coat of Rustoleum on it. It’s all painted and ready to go back on whenever that may be.
While that was drying, I spent some time cleaning up and organizing the garage so I’m not tripping over stuff. Got the new rotors off the shelf where they’ve been sitting since I purchased them from a forum member a few months ago. They were going to go on the ‘70 roadster this winter when I was done driving for the year. That plan changed when the car got totaled. So now they are going on the GT since it’s rotors are badly rusted. I was thinking about ordering new calipers but the original Lockheed calipers look pretty good. I popped the pistons out with some compressed air and cleaned them up and installed the EZ Bleeders that were also purchased for the roadster.
I entertained the thought of getting all new suspension bushings and just going for it now but I want to get the GT stopping and driving so I can see how the gearbox performs. I’m still going to do that but I can do that a bit later. If I can get the wheels done and new tires on it after bleeding the brakes and the clutch, I can get a parking lot drive in before the bad weather kicks in. I’d like to have it running and driving soon and then tackle the suspension rebuild. New tires and new exhaust first I think.
