Tried to find a home for the shell but couldn’t make it happen so today I cut the back half into pieces and got it loaded up into the trailer with the rest of the car. A real bummer but it’s time to concentrate on the resurrection of the 1971 GT that sat idle for 34 years. A fair amount has been done to get it on the road to see what it needed and after confirming that it’s a winner, it’s been sitting and waiting for me to finish dismantling the wreck. Hoping to get organized later this week after I haul the trailer to the scrap yard. The weather is starting to get incrementally better so it’s time to move the daily driver outside and make more room to pull the engine and gearbox out and get the new clutch and OD installed along with some engine and engine bay clean up. I’m excited to do what needs to be done to get the GT truly back on the road soon.
Tuesday
Reduced to a trailer load of scrap metal. An ignominious end for my split bumper B. Everything that was left, piled into a 4x8’ utility trailer and turned in for scrap value. A bare shell minus the front and rear suspension. Thrown in with unwanted metal bits to the tune of about 680 pounds and essentially exchanged for some beer money.
On a more positive note, I’ve ordered a stainless steel Bell exhaust system for the GT from British Stainless Exhaust and it is on its way from Michigan. Making plans to move the GT over to the middle of the garage where I’ll have more room. Time to get it up on jack stands and start disconnecting stuff for the engine/gearbox removal.
