Picked up the second batch of aerosol spray cans this morning and finished up the Flame Red painting. Much cooler today and I slowed the passes with the spray cans and it came out nice and glossy like it was supposed to do so lesson learned. I’ll go that route when it’s time to do the underside of the bonnet and the channels on the wings. A little bit of cleanup on some of the hard lines was needed where the foil was disturbed but all in all, I’m happy with the way it turned out. I have to touch up behind the brake pipe distribution block. It must not have been cleaned very well as the paint lifted a bit. Easily fixed.
Moved on to finishing the Lucas 9H High and Low tone horns. Slathered them in paint stripper and let that work and then followed up in the parts washer to remove the gunk. A wipe down with some Acetone, some 400 grit sand paper to smooth them out, a quick lick of Rustoleum etch primer and a couple coats of Dupli-Color black semi-gloss acrylic lacquer and they are ready to go pretty much. One of the spade terminal connectors broke off so with some forum help, I have a source for something that should work.
Unwrapped all of the engine bay masking save for the harness and the wings. Starting to look a lot better although for a car that sat for 34 years, the original paint in the engine bay wasn’t horrible. Worth tidying up however. Moss list is growing but it’s mostly small stuff. Some heater gaskets/seals, stickers, etc and a couple double spade connectors to fix the horn.
