Got back from a camping trip yesterday and had hopes of getting further along than I did but a birthday party for our 3 year old granddaughter, a tour of my son’s in-laws almost finished new home, a couple of beers and a visit with our daughter and family, and then bbq’ing some chicken for dinner kinda took care of the day.
I did manage a couple little things earlier in the day however. My Moss order was waiting for me when we got home and also the double spade terminals that I ordered to repair my high tone horn. I glued all of the gaskets, seals, etc. to the heater box that I’ve been working on and then added the decals to finish it all off. I decided to expose the bare metal on the embossed Smiths lettering on the front cover rather than hide it under the black paint. Combined with the metal clips that I cleaned up with some Emory cloth, it’s a nice look I think. Happy with the result and it’s ready to reinstall at some point. Didn’t find time today to remove the bonnet but hopefully I can get my helper to lend me a hand tomorrow.
The horn repair turned out ok as well and fingers crossed will sound ok too. I’ll put the battery charger on it in the morning to test it. The terminal slipped right over the stud that I had previously soldered and then after grinding away some material from the brass nut, I was able to fit it between the spades and tighten it all down.
I decided to strip the pedal box earlier in the day and then this evening, I sanded it all down, massaged some small dents out a bit and hit it with some Rustoleum Rust converter while I had just a bit of fading light left in the day. I’ll see what it looks like in the daylight tomorrow and shoot some of the same Dupli-Color acrylic lacquer semi-gloss if it’s ready for some topcoats.
Nearing the finish line of the engine bay work and I’m hoping to get the underside of the bonnet prepped and painted in the next couple of days.
Then I can glue the bonnet liners on so it’s ready to reinstall. Having it off will allow me to prep and paint the wing gutters/channels and also provide access to reinstall the heater box.
