Found some Redline MT-90 at O’Reilly’s today. They had to bring it out as there wasn’t any GL4 stuff on the shelves. Managed to get the diff filled without making too big a mess so that ought to last as long as I have the car. Then I moved onto the gearbox. Got all the old oil drained out and rigged up a hose and funnel to fill the gearbox back up. They didn’t make it easy to access the top fill. Another one of those MG idiosyncratic PITA jobs that leaves you scratching your head. And your arms and hands...
Another job done that won’t be necessary for a long while I hope.
I decided to have a go at the lumpy running. Distributor wasn’t snugged up enough apparently so the timing had shifted. Got the timing light out and reset that after pulling and cleaning the plugs. Moved on to the carbs so out came the manual and went through it step by step. Managed to get the idle down and a little smoother but something wasn’t right with the front carb. After looking around a little closer, I noticed a link arm had popped out of the enrichment cam lever. Not sure of the terminology but it couldn’t have been helping the tune procedure. I’m going to start over tomorrow and see ifI can get them dialed in a little better. Had enough fumes for the evening even with the garage door wide open so called it a day.
