Between a 5 day camping trip with my wife and some friends, a 3 day golf trip with my buddies, a few birthdays, and the usual day-to-day work in and around the house, not much has been done on the GT resuscitation lately.
I did finish wiring up the lighted LED push button OD switch that I retrofitted into the wood shift knob. Tested fine so I finally got the OD gearbox off the engine stand that I converted into a test stand.
I then was able to mount the engine on the stand so that I can proceed with the work. I unwrapped all of the masking tape around various bits and pieces that I didn’t want maroon paint on and started cleaning up a little overspray around the water pump and timing cover flanges.
Went down a rabbit hole by running the rotary wire brush over the bolt heads to shine them all up prior to reassembly. That’s as far as I got before it was off to our grandson’s birthday party. Today I might get a chance to do a little more after watching our youngest granddaughter for a couple hours to help out her busy mom. Homeschooling 2 small ones during COVID while having a busy 3 year old has meant the grandparents trading time during the week. Hoping to get the timing cover oil seal in and the cover back on as well as the water pump, thermostat, and side covers. All freshly painted and all new gaskets.
Once that is done, I can spin the engine over and remove the pan. Then I can get the pan and rocker covers sandblasted and painted, and then pull and replace the rod bearings and a few main bearings as long as I’m this deep into it. Like I said, it seems like I’m never going to finish…
