Had some time today so I worked on the battery compartment. Removed the cable that connected the two 6 volts and relocated the ground over to the passenger side. Robbed a cable out of the wrecked ‘70 as it was new and just the right length. I’ll worry about mounting the disconnect later.
Dropped the battery in and turned the ignition on. Red light came on but didn’t hear the fuel pump kick on. Probed the fuse block with the Fluke and showed power to the white wire at the block and the bullet connection that runs to the pump. Gave the pump a couple good whacks but no joy. I did bump the starter and it cranks so that’s good.
Got the Chemical Guys polisher kit in the mail so I decided to try it out. The whole car was clayed and ready for some compound and polish and I got the roof, the hatch and the driver’s rear quarter panel done and it really put some life back into that old paint. Still lots of fine scratches so maybe a different pad and some more polishing is in order. I like the TORQX machine with the exception of the on-off toggle. Not in a good spot. Not a deal breaker but still awkward. Can’t wait to get the whole car done and then sealed.
I’m going to see about jacking the car up so I can see if I’m getting power to the fuel pump. Might try to get it in the garage alongside the wreck tomorrow. I can take the one out of the donor and swap for the other if need be. It’s been sitting for 34 years so it wouldn’t surprise me if the contacts are corroded. The ash has stopped so the new-ish MINI can hang outside now and I can have both MG’s under cover and lights.
