Started in on the OD servicing. Pulled the relief valve out and cleaned it up. Decided to just replace all of the o-rings and gaskets while I’ve got the gearbox out and accessible. Moved onto the solenoid next and discovered the wire hanging on to the coil by a thread but I have a spare. It was soaked in oil and I need to read up on whether that is normal. Doesn’t seem right so I’ll need to read up on that. Next up was the oil pump and this is where the oops comes into play. Sometimes you have to learn things the hard way like how to keep from letting the plunger plunge into the case. Ugh. Reading through forum posts it seems as though it happens a fair amount but nonetheless, it was agonizing. I almost coaxed it out by magnetizing a screwdriver but watched helplessly as it dropped into the bowels of the case. So, off came the remote control tower and then the OD unit. Read some stories about that process but it actually came off easily. Decided at this point to also replace the piston O-rings while I am at it. Got some hints from the OD guru on how to do that so that it what I’ll be doing at some point. Ordered parts from Moss and there are a handful that are back-ordered so it’s time to cover things up and wait for the parts to come in.
Got an invoice from Basil on some other parts so those should be showing up before too long. My radio console project had stalled while waiting for parts and a family vacation away also. Content to just enjoy driving it on these nice Summer days. Fall is creeping up on us and hopefully there will be lots of nice driving days ahead still.
