Engine compartment painted this week, and installed original air filter housing on the ZS CD150 carb. Engine now much closer to original.

Harley Davidson Exhaust Replacement

Removed the stock resonator and muffler and replaced with a 1950-52 Harley Flathead muffler. It’s a little louder than I expected, but it was the simplest swap I’ve ever seen, and can easily be reversed if needed. I really like the change to the looks of the rear of the car.

Gave Up On The Harley Exhaust

Only been a week, but I've decided I can't take the noise level of the new Harley exhaust. As of this past week, it's been removed from Opus and I'm already looking at other options. I'm NOT going back to the stock full sized muffler and resonator setup - just looks too clunky under the rear bumper.

I personally dont like how far they stick out from under the bumper (especially the dual pipe version for the 1500). I was just looking for an economical replacement. See my later entries for my $29 brand new solution (yea, its a rigged up job but it came out nice).

Allis Chalmers Muffler Replacement - Don't Laugh!

As promised, I didn't go back to my original stock resonator and muffler. Instead I found an out-of-the-box replacement... An Allis Chalmers vertical tractor muffler is a cylindrical muffler, 30" long, 1 5/8" inlet size which sleeves right over the stock 1 1/2" pipe without adapting, cutting, or lengthening. Added a chrome tip and it looks and fits great. The idle "burble" is not very note worthy, but it sounds pretty good under power. I'm going to run it for the summer and see if it grows on me. Definitely like the look over the stock setup.

Yes - removed both. The new muffler sits right where the resonator used to be, but then it just flows straight out the back (no bends). Didnt have to cut the original pipe - just disconnected the stock setup and put this in its place. I just didnt like the stock sideways muffler showing below the bumper.

Hard Top And Steering Wheel Improvements

Found an original Midget steering wheel on-line for $7 and the vinyl parts were completely intact (wow). The metal arms were oxidized, but a buffer and some polish fixed that right up. Also found some generic “O” shaped weatherstripping and re-did the seals on my hardtop around the door windows. It’s turning out to be a better weekend than I hoped!

New Muffler Finalization

The Alllis Chalmers muffler has grown on me. Decided to clean up the look a bit. Recessed it a little farther under the bumper and trimed the outlet pipe down to 6” to match the chrome tip. Against my better judgement I painted it black with high temp ceramic paint - I know that may come back to haunt me later (if the paint starts to wear).
